2019 Race Notes<\/strong><\/p>\n

8\/27 – Many thanks to all who joined us for a very irregular Summer Series, with only 6 races sailed due to weather.
\nTonight\u2019s last summer race was a pretty night with a hint of fall. RC was very lucky with no bugs on the dock during the finishes.
\nMany, many, many thank you\u2019s to our very faithful race committee! They are a great team! Thank you, also, to John Sahagian for the use of Sea Kids as a replacement RC Boat.
\nEnjoy a safe, restful Labor Day Weekend and we\u2019ll see you back out on the water for the 1st<\/sup> Fall Race on Sunday, 9\/8.

5\/14 –<\/strong> Many kudos to the racers who braved the cold to join us tonight for our apparent frost-biting series! It was a great turn-out, with 12 of the 25 boats registered joining us on the water, despite the cold.
\nHopefully, by next week all of our equipment difficulties will be corrected, including the motor on the RC boat, the ground tackle on our starting mark \u2013 C, and our dock box will be fixed, and it will be much warmer!

As the 2018-2020 South Bay Racing Chart has not yet been posted, I have attached the revised courses as you will see them on that chart and as included in our Race Book. The 2015-2017 chart is not the same, so please do not use that for courses.<\/p>

Also, due to the Volvo Ocean Race Newport Stop Over, the first 2 Tuesdays of our racing may see more traffic on the Bay than we normally would. Please stay alert for those not racing.<\/p>

Lastly, for the first 2 Tuesday races we will be conducting dock starts. Race Committee will be on the CMS Fuel Dock for the starts as well as the normal finishes.
The Jamestown Yacht Club Race Committee would like to inform you of the Coast Guard requirements regarding our event permit for the JYC racing.<\/p>

The race participants are not exempt from any Federal, state, or local laws or regulations, including no-wake zones.<\/p>

Per our Sailing Instructions, paragraph 17.2, all participants are required to follow Rule 9 of the Navigation Rules, which prohibits interference with vessels than can only navigate within areas considered \"narrow channels or fairways\".\u00a0 Narragansett Bay has been designated a Restricted Channel and sailing vessels do not automatically become \"stand-on\" or \"privileged\" by virtue of participation in the racing event, i.e., do not have right of way over a vessel under power which may be restricted in her ability to maneuver.
In decreased visibility (less than 2 nautical miles), race participants must comply with the COLREGS sound signal requirements.<\/p>

Additionally, JYC racers are reminded of the requirements, per paragraph 17.1 of the JYC Sailing Instructions, to check-out with the race committee if withdrawing from a race for whatever reason, as we must notify the CG when all our boats have finished racing.<\/p>

All JYC race participants are reminded that operating in a negligent manner (as determined by the Coast Guard) may cause our racing series to be terminated.<\/p>

Our racers are reminded that they should be considerate of other racers in other series racing, particularly in the confined space of Newport harbor and the starting lines of the other race series. Per The Racing Rules of Sailing, racers can be protested by boats sailing in another race series. Continued interference with the other regattas sailing out of Newport harbor, may be viewed as negligent by the Coast Guard, who is monitoring the races. Several instances have been reported by the other race committees of our boats running through\u00a0the starting line with a\u00a0sequence in progress. Please be considerate and avoid other starting lines!<\/strong><\/p>

Additionally, JYC racers are reminded, per paragraph 12 of the JYC Sailing Instructions, to not recross the finish line. \"If a competitor interferes with another boat\u2019s finish, he\/she is subject to protest by the race committee.\"<\/p>
