JYC is pleased to offer complimentary use of a two moorings as part of your membership.

One is at Block Island and the other at Dutch Harbor.

Please follow the mooring usage rules.

BLOCK ISLAND MOORING

 
The position of the mooring is:
41.18805, -71.580817 (DD)
41° 11.283′ N, 71° 34.849′ W (DDM)
41° 11′ 16.98″ N, 71° 34′ 50.941″ W (DDMS)
 
The mooring is first come, first served.
Up to three boats may raft.
Maximum stay:  three nights.
No unattended overnight boats allowed.
The maximum length for a boat on the mooring is 55 feet.
Any JYC member in good standing who flies a club burgee from the mast is eligible to use the mooring.
If you are a member in good standing borrowing or chartering a boat, you are eligible to fly your burgee and use the mooring.
But don’t charter your boat to nonmembers and supply them with your burgee for this purpose.
The New Shoreham Harbor Master will have a copy of member names as well as boat names.
 

 

 
 

DUTCH HARBOR MOORING

The position of the mooring is:
41.4964, -71.394517 (DD)
41° 29.784′ N, 71° 323.671′ W (DDM)
41° 29′ 147.04″ N, 71° 23′ 40.26″ W (DDMS)
 
The mooring is marked by a line storage buoy with green reflective tape around the top rim. If you do arrive and find a non-member boat on the mooring hail the Jamestown Harbormaster for assistance.
The mooring is first come, first served.
There is no rafting.
Maximum stay:  three nights.
No unattended overnight boats allowed.
The maximum length for a boat on the mooring is 50 feet.
Any JYC member in good standing who flies a club burgee from the mast is eligible to use the mooring.
If you are a member in good standing borrowing or chartering a boat, you are eligible to fly your burgee and use the mooring.
But don’t charter your boat to nonmembers and supply them with your burgee for this purpose.

Members using the JYC Moorings on Block Island or Dutch Harbor will need to report into our web portal when tied on the mooring. The Harbormasters require us to provide them with this information since demand for moorings has increased, and any yacht club that falls short of the annual usage requirement will forfeit their club mooring.  

To make your reporting in as easy as possible, your Membership Card will have a QR code printed on the back side of your laminated card .  Or follow this link  https://jyc.org/wordpress/block-island-mooring-usage/ When you are on the mooring, you simply scan the QR code on your membership card which brings you to a page on our JYC site to complete. There are 5 simple questions to answer:

  1. Captain’s Name
  2. Boat Name
  3. Boat Type (Sail or Power)
  4. Captain’s Phone #
  5. Date on JYC mooring

When finished, click the SUBMIT button. If you are on the mooring for consecutive days, you should do this each day.

We hope to attach a tag on the mooring pickup stick to remind members to scan their card and report usage. A best practice might be to leave your membership card onboard to make scanning easy.

A few other reminders for anyone using the JYC Moorings:

  • You must fly your JYC burgee in a visible location when on the mooring. If you don’t know where your burgee is, please order a new one.
  • There is a 3 boat raft limit on the Block Island mooring at all times. There is a 1 boat limit at Dutch Harbor.
  • When on the Block Island mooring, you should always set out fenders and have lines ready for another boat, especially if you plan to go ashore or be away from your boat. Tying off to someone else’s boat can be a challenge without having fixed lines available to use.
  • The town does not rent out club moorings but will utilize them in an emergency. If you see a boat without a JYC burgee on our mooring which you don’t recognize, you may contact the Harbormaster to inquire if the boat is a JYC member. The Harbormaster has a complete list of our members.
