Skipper’s Meeting  30 April, 2024

Crew Rotation Form

2024 Protest Status

NOTES:

15 September – After no wind, then fluky wind, caused a postponement of Race #2, the wind piped up stronger than predicted.
We sent the fleet off on a course to avoid the S Class regatta and the 2 cruise ships in Newport harbor entrance.
Many thanks to Vento Solare and crew for moving the pin end for us when the big shift occurred.

Hopefully, everyone enjoyed the beautiful day on the water!  See you all next week.

28 August – To our Summer Series Racers,
Results of Races 8 and 10 have been updated as well as the Season Summary to address scoring changes due to protests.
This finalizes our Summer Series.

See you on the water for the Fall Series!

27 August – Please note that Summer series cumulative results are preliminary pending two protests.
RC appreciates all the thanks from our racers. Glad we could give you all a great series of racing.
Hope to see you on the water for the Fall series.

6 August – Racing cancelled tonight due to the threat of thunderstorms.

30 July – A big thank you to all our racers as you all stayed well clear of the car carrier exiting the Bay tonight! We received a thumbs up from the pilot.
It is much appreciated by your Race Committee.

Four more races in the Summer Series. As of tonight, the Summer Series and Full Series is closed for registrations. We will open Fall registration shortly. Please feel free to contact me if you have any issues or questions on this.

Thanks again for staying clear. Hopefully you all enjoyed a great evening on the water!

Best,
Cheryl Rienzo
JYC Vice Commodore/Fleet Captain/Race Committee Chairperson

23 July – To our Racers and Race Committee,

Due to lack of wind and likelihood of fog, I am cancelling tonight’s Crew Rotation race.
See you on the water next week for Summer Series Race 6.

Regards,
Cheryl Rienzo

16 July – JYC Racers, another interesting Tuesday evening! Thank you for your patience when we postponed for the car carrier.
Was unusual to have the wind build to the end of the race as well. We saw quite a few interesting finishes.

Just a reminder – yet again – to not recross the finish line after finishing. You may be protested by the RC for blocking other finishers; not very sportsmanlike either.

Reminder #2: Next week will be our annual Crew Rotation race. It is not part of the Summer series. If you only registered for the Summer series, it does not include this race.

See you on the water next week.

1 July – Racers,
The Summer Series results have been updated for the C Fleet due to a PHRF appeal. Please see revised results for Races 1 and 2.

25 June -Thank you all for your understanding regarding our lack of RC boat tonight. What Cheer decided to take a break when we left the dock and wouldn’t go into gear. Hopefully, we’ll be up and running next week.
As a reminder to all our racers, please do NOT recross the finish line after you finish. You may block other finishers from RC’s view. If you need to drop of crew, go around the end of the finish line to get to the Jamestown docks.
Thank you for your attention to this!

18 June – Beautiful night for a good long race! RC took advantage of the wind and daylight to send the fleets for long ones tonight.
Another reminder that the 2021-2023 South Bay charts are no longer to be used. JYC has updated our course list for 2024. Please use the course list in our JYC Race Book paragraph 7.0, page 27. Additionally, the Sail Newport South Bay Chart for 2024-2027 is now available on line at Sail-Newport-Race-Chart-2024-26-12×18-PROOF6.pdf (sailnewport.org) with JYC’s latest course list.

11 June – To our JYC Racers:
A beautiful night to end out Spring series…thanks to all those who joined us for this series!  Many thanks to our RC volunteers who made the series possible.
Also, a fun night by was had by all who attended the CYC/JYC Grill Night Mixer tonight, roughly 80 folks.  The food, hospitality and company was great!
Thank you to CYC for hosting us!!!

Sadly, the South Bay Charts 2024-2026 are not yet back from the printers. I will make them available as soon as we receive them. In the meantime please continue to use the JYC Race Book course list, not the South Bay Chart 2021-2023.

See you on the water next week for the 1st Summer race of the season.
Best,
Cheryl

14 May – Welcome to 2024 JYC Racing Season! Our 1st Spring Race was a bit chilly with the gusty wind and water temp at 51, but we had great attendance.
Although we had to do a dock start, the mooring field was mostly clear and SW wind worked in our favor.

Thank you all for your participation. Please remember to use the Course list from the Race Book until the new South Bay Chart is available in a few weeks.

Also, please remember to check out with RC if leaving the race area prior to finishing. This is a requirement in our sailing instructions and you may be protested by the RC for not following this.

See you on the water next week!

To our JYC Racers,
Great Skippers Meeting conducted tonight with good attendance in person and on Zoom. We appreciate your attention to the changes we’ve made for this season and the Safety presentation we had regarding our narrow channel.
Many thanks to Dave Kane, a Navigation instructor from the Surface Warfare Schools Command (SWSC) and a Narragansett Bay sailor. I’ve summarized his presentation in the post-meeting Skippers Mtg presentation.
Also, many thanks to CYC for allowing us to use their facility for this event. Much appreciated.

For those who were unable to attend, please see the attached presentation for a summary of this year’s changes/updates.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Hope to see you all on the water soon!

Regards,
Cheryl
